The B2B freelance/contracting market has never been as boyant as it is now. A recent survey* of 1,000 UK workers reveals that almost a third (29%) are considering moving to a new job this year. Findings also uncovered the industries most likely to be affected by this mass migration of staff are; IT & Telecoms (42% of total), and Sales, Media & Marketing (40%). But there are other solid reasons why using a freelance marketing contractor has a positive impact on your business results, other than to “fill a gap”. Here are the three main benefits:
1. Fresh Perspective
It is unlikely that when a marketing contractor starts working on your project, it’s their first gig. They will bring deep knowledge to the table of what works and what doesn’t, born from real-life experiences of working in the trenches with other clients in your industry – maybe even your competition. A professional contractor will provide a fresh (outside in) 360-degree perspective on the situation, implementing ideas and actions that your own team may not have considered.
2. Speed and Agility
When the rubber hits the road, you can expect a contractor to begin adding value from day one. Jumping right into the project and rapidly assessing what needs to be done to meet the goals and quickly devising and implementing an agile marketing plan. This is how we operate. Moving from contract to contract means that we have a completely different mindset to that of on-boarding permanent employees who can take months to learn the ropes. Working as a Marketing-as-a-Service type consumption model, you can call on our resources as, and when you most need them. Including switching them off when you don’t! Another bonus of using contractors is moving valuable marketing budget from CapEx over to OpEx and keeping the headcount off the balance sheet.
3. Long Term Impact
As previously stated, when a contractor walks in your door, they bring with them years of practical experience in your industry such as how to reach your target personas and keep them hooked along all buyer journey steps. Contractors always pass on recommendations for improving your processes, tools etc. based on industry best practices. Helping you (if invited) to sharpen your digital marketing strategy. One of my aims when working on a client project is to pass on my knowledge, especially to junior members of the marketing team and leave an overall lasting impression.
So you see, there are WAY more business benefits to using an experienced marketing contractor other than simply covering for maternity leave or providing cover during holiday periods.
